Charming Bed and Breakfast with pool and tennis court in the Loire
Tauxigny, near Loches, between Tours and Amboise in the Indre et Loire
3 double rooms and a family room. Dinner available on request.
Beauvais Chambres d’Hôtes
You cannot help but fall under the charm of this lovely traditional longhouse, 15 minutes from Loches. Beauvais is a small, peaceful hamlet, 3 km from Tauxigny, in the heart of the Loire Valley, near many of the great Loire chateaux. We are 30 minutes south of Tours and Amboise, where we have three comfortable double rooms and a family room, a swimming pool and a tennis court. An ideal base for couples, families and friends travelling together, in which to spend a few days exploring the treasures of the Loire at any time of year.
While this part of the Loire is famous for its exquisite châteaux, it is also famous for its food and produces some excellent wines, including Vouvray, a sparkling white wine as good as any champagne. Cravant les Côteaux is a small wine producing village near Chinon, where you can sample and buy directly from the vineyards. The Bourgueil wines are others to look for. There are also several championship golf courses within reasonable driving distance for those who prefer something different. We will be happy to recommend and advise on anything you want to know. All the rooms have views of the garden and independent outside access. Each room is furnished with a mixture of country furniture (chests of drawers, writing desk, bedside tables and chairs) and has a terracotta tile floor and mats. The bathrooms have shower or bath. Extra beds are available on request. Children are always welcome.
The Double Room has twin beds. La Grande Chambre has a double bed and two single beds. La Suite has two adjoining bedrooms, one with a double bed the other with twin beds. A generous breakfast of various breads and pastries, home made jams, juice, tea and coffee (more if wanted) is served in our dining room. Dinner is available on request and a menu may be composed of 4 courses, according to season with a bottle of wine ( red, rosé or white). For example: Starter of home made terrine or crudités from the garden Main course of grilled lamb chops, potatoes, vegetables or salad Cheese Home made sorbet The garden, pool and tennis court are yours to enjoy and there is a private parking area.
The Area
There are several golf courses within reasonable driving distance, including an excellent 18-hole golf course at Tours. Bicycles can be hired locally. An hour from here is Futuroscope, the huge science and technology park just outside Poitiers, which is fun for both children and adults. Tours also has very good shopping and an attractive old quarter with dozens of small restaurants that stay open at all hours. Loches lies beside the Indre river and has charming pavement cafes and a marvellous market on Wednesdays and Saturdays. The walled medieval town clustered around the château, sits on the hill above the main town and has some fine Renaissance houses, is full of history and makes a pleasant walk - highly recommended after lunch at Le George Sand on the terrace overlooking the river. Gardeners would enjoy the lovely Renaissance gardens of Château de Villandry and the spectacular ones at Valençay, south of Blois, and at Château de Chaumont. The stables at Chaumont are worth a visit alone, if only to see the luxury in which the horses were kept in the 15th century. Amboise is one of the oldest of the royal palaces and has a superb setting above the town and river. Chambord, a forerunner of Versailles, is perhaps one of the most breathtaking of the châteaux and Chenonceau never ceases to delight. Travel Information
