Country Bed & Breakfast in the heart of Normandy
Lieurey, on the edge of Calvados near Honfleur and Deauville
1 double room with private bathroom and entrance sleeps 1 or 2 people

L’Ancienne Epicerie B&B

There is a warm, friendly welcome waiting on arrival at l’Epicerie Bed and Breakfast. The house is set in a large garden in a quiet hamlet between the villages of Lieurey and Epaignes and is an ideal place for a relaxing few days break in the countryside. We are within 20 minutes of Honfleur on the coast and within easy driving distance on quiet roads to beaches.

The villages are each about 4 kms away and both have a choice of boulangeries (bakeries), supermarket(s) restaurants, bars, post offices, ATM machines, pharmacies and petrol stations.

Lieurey is situated in the heart of Normandy, though still in the Eure, it is only 8 kms away from Calvados and the town of Cormeilles, which is typically Norman in character and has a large choice of shops, restaurants and bars.
Our B&B Chambre d’Hotes is situated right between two main motorways: the A13 Paris/Caen and the A28 Rouen/Le Mans. Coordinates are: longitude: 49.24.611 and latitude: 0.47.25.

The room is comfortable and well furnished with two single beds and a small chest of drawers, TV (French), a mini-bar, kettle and coffee maker, plus a dining set for four. The shower room includes shower, toilet, washbasin, enough towels and a hair-dryer. Breakfast is served either in the room or in the garden depending on the weather. Dinner is available on request (4 courses including drinks).
There is free wi-fi internet and the room has its own private entrance via a staircase to the first floor.

In the garden, exclusively for our guests, is an arbour with a set of chairs and a table, also an above ground swimming pool (for general use) and there are deck chairs.

The Area

A variety of sporting activities is available for all ages from riding stables in the village, which also does occasional carriage trips, to recreation lakes at Pont-Audemer and Brionne for (wild) watersports with watersports rental facilities, swimming pools in St Georges-du-Vievre (8 kms), Pont-Audemer (14 kms) and a salt water pool in Deauville (approx. 30 minutes). Lieurey has its own hardcourt tennis courts.

Various well known golf courses like Golf de St Gatien (27 holes), the prestige golf course of Deauville (27 holes), Golf de St Julien-sur-Calonne (27 holes), Golf Champs-de-Bataille (27 holes) in Le Neubourg and the small courses in Bernay (9 holes) and Pont-Audemer (9 holes), are all in a range of about 30 to 45 minutes drive. Many of them are challenging and suitable for both beginners and advanced players.
Beaches amongst others can be found at Deauville, Trouville, Houlgate, Cabourg and Villers sur Mer.

This part of Normandy is rich in history. Founded more than 1100 years ago when it received its rights under the French Sovereigns at that time, the region went through many battles throughout the ages, from William the Conqueror to more recently, the D-Day invasions on June 6 1944. The history of these battles can be found in the abbey of Le Bec-Hellouin and the beautiful castles of Harcourt, Beaumesnil and Champs de Bataille in Le Neubourg.
The allied invasion beaches and Memorials, like those in the city of Caen, the town of Arromanches, the village of St Mer-Eglise (with the paraglider at the church tower), the Pointe du Hoc, Omaha and Utah beaches, are more than worth a visit.

The historical town of Bernay (birthplace of Edith Piaf) with its charming antique shops radiates the charm of Normandy. Pont-Audemer is also known as the Venice of the North, where you can visit the weekly market every Monday morning and enjoy the pleasures of the town.
Honfleur, about 20 minutes away, is very picturesque and an artist’s paradise. The church in this town is made entirely of wood, built in the 16th century by the shipbuilders of that period. It has many restaurants, shops and art galleries to browse through, or you can simply sit on the quayside and have a drink (or two). The weekly market in Honfleur is every Saturday.
The Zoo Cerza at Hermival-les-Vaux (with its white tigers) near Lisieux is also worth a visit.
