Le Sequoïa
Offering amazing views, high altitude lakes and huge forests, Pyrénées 2000 is sure to delight any visitor, and is the perfect place to recharge your batteries. You can set off to discover an incredible range of fauna and flora along with some outstanding local heritage sites in a mountain environment accessible to all. Perpignan is an hour from here, Toulouse 2 hours by car.
The Font-Romeu Pyrénées 2000 ski area has an altitude of 1,800 m – 2,250 m comprising 54 km of downhill runs and 34 runs of: 8 black, 8 red, 9 blue and 9 green. Plus 111 km of runs of cross-country skiing and 11 km of snowshoe hiking paths. Built using traditional local materials, the 3 small buildings that make up the “Le Sequoïa” residence blend perfectly into the surrounding landscape of pine and larch trees. Fully renovated, the residence offers comfortable studios and apartments that have been enlarged and redecorated in a mix of traditional and contemporary styles. The apartments are close to the slopes and within walking distance from the shops and entertainment in the village. Ski lockers are provided and there is a games room and a bar restaurant.
The apartments have a balcony and a living area with 2 sofa-beds + 1 pull-out bed and 1 bedroom with 1 double bed. Some apartments have 1 cabin with 2 bunk beds in addition to the bedroom. There is a fully equipped kitchen area that includes 4 electric hot plates, refrigerator, microwave-grill oven, dishwasher, coffee maker. There is a bathroom (washbasin and bath) and a separate toilet. The studio apartments have a shower and wc. Each apartment has telephone with Internet connection and television. All beds are fitted with duvets. Bed linen and towels are provided. A choice of Child Care and Kindergarten Centres and Clubs are available for children between 2 - 6 years and 6 - 12 years. These provide half day and full day care and a range of indoor and outdoor activities, and ski classes (no ski lift pass required). The Territoire Lapon Centre is an educational farm in the middle of the forest that has an active reindeer breeding program and a Santa Clause village that children will be taken to visit and can participate in as part of their activities.
The Area
After-ski activities include the sports centre (with 3 indoor tennis courts, gym, bodybuilding, sauna, solarium, stretching, etc.), a balneotherapy centre, squash, a tobogganing run and bowling. Font-Romeu has a skating rink, an Olympic swimming pool, a riding centre with indoor ring and the “Colette Besson” centre with indoor tennis and squash courts, and a casino. Take the time to unwind and bathe in the natural hot springs at Llo and Saint-Thomas-les-Bains (30 minutes away). Relaxation and well-being treatments are also available. Other sports include: Snowshoeing, hangliding, night skiing with flame-lit descent, walks, snowshoeing hikes (over a network of marked trails with 5 themed walks, daily guided excursions, half-day initiation, bivouac in a mountain refuge, high altitude peaks…), dog-sledding and a snowpark. An encounter with nature treks take you to the Barres National Forest and include the observation of the highly varied forest wild-life (red deer, roedeer) and learning to recognise tracks and how to approach animals. The treks include a relaxation session in the Saint Thomas hot baths: proof of the power of nature. The virgin snows of the Cerdagne and Capcir areas offer a number of vast, bright, unspoilt locations just perfect for snowshoeing under Mediterranean skies, through silent forests and over frozen lakes, up to panoramic peaks and into hidden valleys.
