A rare property on the l’Île de Groix in Southern Brittany
An exceptional way of life, 45 minutes from Lorient
Property Details The house is on the point of the west side of the island in a protected nature reserve, surrounded by heath land and space. The property is a traditional Breton longhouse, fully restored, and ideal either as a permanent home, a holiday home or adapted into 2 gite cottages to provide rental income. The situation is very special, perfect for those who prefer a life in harmony with nature and the elements. The l’Île de Groix is just off the southern coast of Brittany, opposite Lorient. Daily ferries run between Lorient and Port-Trudy, the island’s main town. The trip takes 45 minutes. The airport at Lorient has several flights a day to Paris.
The house has 6000m2 of land with more available if required and comprises a main living room with a fireplace, kitchen area, 4 large bedrooms and two bathrooms. The bay windows are PVC. There is an annex that can be extended into a separate self-contained cottage, a garden shed for tools and storage and a terrace.
The area around the house is an ornithological reserve, known for its colonies of marine birds. The protected area around the Pointe des Chats is of great geological importance, where more than 60 different minerals can be found. Groix’s most famous stretch of sand is the Plages des Grandes Sables on the east of the island. South of this are Les Sables Rouges, an attractive succession of sandy coves. Networks of lanes, good for cycling or walking, cross the island via valleys and villages.
